September 11, 2001: A Reminder to Be Prepared for Life’s ‘What-ifs’

WTC

All of us have important dates committed to memory (or at least programmed into our e-calendars); we remember birthdays, anniversaries, and those dates that have true meaning to each of us as individuals. September 11, 2001 is a date that unique because it resonates with all of us.

September 11th is a somber memory for those of us who were alive to witness the attacks in New York City, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C. and for years to come our children will learn about this very day through history lessons.

We mourn the loss of those whose lives were taken too soon, we remember the heroic responders who gave all in the line of duty, and we thank those who have served and, continue to serve, our country.

As the years pass, what can we take away from September 11, 2001? We can hold our children just a little bit tighter, act just a little bit kinder, extend ourselves to connect with friends old and new, and be sure that those that we care about know it.

A tragedy, such as September 11th, reminds us that we need to be prepared for life’s ‘what-ifs’.
