Protecting families. Strengthening communties.

The Family Security Plan was founded on a simple idea, every working family deserves access to affordable financial protection. Our commitment to Trust, Teamwork, and Transparency is at the heart of everything we do.

How it all began

1973
Founders Stanley Sussman and John Schmitt II recognized that average wage earners were underserved by traditional insurance providers. Guided by the credit union philosophy of “people helping people,” they saw an opportunity to partner with credit unions to bring affordable financial protection to working families.
1973
1980's
The company officially became Schmitt Sussman Enterprises (dba PFP) establishing its first headquarters in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and began partnering with major institutions, including MCU in New York City.
1980's
1990's
As the company continued to grow, operations expanded to its current headquarters in Orange, CT, and the suite of insurance products officially became known as The Family Security Plan. During this period, FSP embraced telecommunications, making it easier for credit union members to purchase insurance by phone.
1990's
2000's
The company was deeply connected to the September 11 attacks through our long-standing relationships with several credit unions whose members included many first responders and city employees who lost their lives. After identifying more than 30 insured members among the victims, we proactively contacted their beneficiaries, many of whom were unaware the policies existed, and guided them through the claims process. It was an honor to provide meaningful support to families during such a tragic time.
2000's
Today
Today, The Family Security Plan is powered by more than 250 employees serving credit unions across 24 states with over 200,000 policyholders. In addition to providing valuable insurance solutions, FSP offers comprehensive business services designed to help credit union partners grow and better serve their members.

Our leadership team holds itself and our teams accountable to clear, measurable goals, and everyone knows the numbers.
Does the team know what is expected? Do they solve their own problems, or rely on the CEO to come up with solutions? Does everyone know and can recite the credit union's overall goals?

We proactively reach out to our membership through outbound calling, email campaigns, and community outreach rather than waiting for members to come to us.
Industry data shows only 30% of loan origination comes from proactive channels. Where does your credit union stand? Insurance is 95% proactive: how proactive are you?

Our online and mobile banking, social media, and email marketing actively generate interest in products and services, pointing members toward educational content and referrals.

Our branches and contact center are optimized to educate members and generate meaningful cross-selling results, not just service transactions.
How is cross-selling measured? Is it consistent across the team, or dependent on a few top performers? Does everyone know the numbers, and are those numbers celebrated?

      Member Engagement
We have a systematic outbound engagement program that builds trust before the call, uses member data to personalize each conversation, and produces measurable results.
Is it truly systematic, or occasional and one-off? Do you warm up the call with personalized emails first? A program that runs occasionally produces occasional results.

Our member engagement conversations consistently lead to action - members participating in appropriate products and services - and we track and celebrate those results.

We measure the critical metrics of our engagement program - loan conversions, cross-sell results, retention rates - and use that data to make real decisions.
Can you show the results of your engagement program right now in a report, not an estimate? A program without data is a program running on belief.
