June is Men's Health Awareness Month!
Men are at a higher risk for many serious diseases such as heart disease, lung cancer, and HIV.
By raising awareness around the topic of men’s health, we can work together to improve men’s health by talking about preventative screenings and regular health care for men of all ages.
Men ages 15-65 years of age are significantly less likely than women to seek preventative care or more likely to not have a primary care provider.1 It is super important to remember to schedule yearly checkups with your doctor to help monitor your weight, blood pressure, and level of cholesterol in your blood.
Here are some ways you can help stay on top of your health:
Eat Natural Foods
Stay away from packaged and processed foods and try to eat a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole-grain products, fiber-rich foods like beans and leafy greens, lean cuts of meat and poultry, and fish such as salmon.
Excercise
- Did you know that the leading cause of death among American men is heart disease?2
- Regularly exercising is one of the best ways to help prevent heart disease. It’s encouraged to get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise every week as well as at least two sessions of muscle-strengthening activities per week like weightlifting, rock climbing, or yoga.
Keep a Healthy Waist
- If your current waist measures more than 40 inches, this could be a cause for concern.
- Ways you can help keep a “happy gut” is to shed excess belly fat by cutting calories from your diet and exercise more. It’s important to talk to your doctor about the weight-loss plan that is best for you.
